Worse Than the Nor’Easter of ‘99

True story, there was a Nor’Easter in ‘99. It was a small one, on the grand scale of things, but it did take some of the shingles off my father’s roof.

A Nor’Easter, for all of you not from the NorthEast coast of the United States, is a small scale arctic hurricane. They’re frequent between October and the end of April along the coast, sometimes as far inland as Philadelphia, and they cause massive damage when they show up because it’s like a hurricane, only with ice. Lots and lots of ice.

There was one in ‘93 that pretty much devestated the entire US East coast in the spring. I remember watching cars float down the street because there was 2 feet of running water (both outside and in our basement, incidentally). Nor’Easters are fun.

Let us hope for their sake it’s just a thunderstorm.
