About the Comic:

The Tempest
The Tempest
is an original graphic novel about two people caught in the middle of life altering decisions. Set in April of 2001 in Manhattan, it follows the story of Anita Martinez, a young orphan dealing with the loss of a friend and her resignation to a life of poverty and underacheivement, and Charles Swinton, a socialite whose irresponsible behavior has gotten him into trouble that he needs big help to get out of. As a flash thunderstorm hits Manhattan, they both become sequestered with an odd and unsettling guide that helps them navigate their way through their respective situations.

The graphic novel deals with death, poverty, friendship, why bad things must happen even to good people, faith, and above all free will. Both Charles and Anita will make their decisions, and though they have guides beside them, their choices must ultimately be their own.

Originally, this was a short story Jen was working on, and a small segment was meant to be an 8-page study of action shots in graphic novel style for Anne’s portfolio. But curiosity took over and it soon snowballed out into a full length graphic novel, all of which will be free online, and eventually sent to print when it is finished.

About the Author:

Jen
Jennifer Harding, heralded by some to be a 3,000 year old fae being, is actually 25 and was born in the Philly area. Around the age of 18 she came to Pittsburgh to find herself. When that didn’t happen, she decided to cut her losses, wrote some bad poetry, and got a few degrees in archaeology.

Instead of continuing on to exciting dig sites across the Mediterranean, Jen rebelled against academia for no particularly good reason, and decided to become a writer instead, using her immense knowledge of all things archaeological to write fantasy/action thrillers based in exotic and historical settings. Unfortunately, her poetry hasn’t gotten any better. Currently she resides in Pittsburgh and earns her living by making things up.

You may contact her if you like, but I wouldn’t believe a word she says.

About the Illustrator:

Anne
Anne Moffa grew up in the forests of southwestern Pennsylvania. She spent much of her childhood playing in castles of hemlock and spruce, reading under cathedral vaults of wild grapevines, and drawing on every available surface. Eventually, she went to college for studio art, creative writing, and history, much to the horror of practical people everywhere.

Currently, Anne makes her home in Pittsburgh. Her dream is to write and illustrate children’s books, as well as graphic novels. She is fond of watercolors, particularly Naples yellow and alizarin crimson. It is true that her last name has no proven etymology, though several possibilities have been presented to her.

You may find more of her work here.
